CTS WallHave you been thinking about getting your Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification? There’s no better time to take advantage of InfoComm’s CTS resources than at the big show in Las Vegas this June. We’ll be hosting several prep courses for general, installation and design certifications, and if you’re ready to take the exam, you can make that happen at the show.

For more than 30 years, InfoComm has administered the Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) program, which is recognized worldwide as the leading AV professional credential. In 2015, InfoComm reached 10,000 CTS holders, a proud milestone. At last year’s show, 173 people earned their CTS certifications.

The CTS prep courses take place over three days and will get you acquainted with the test format and material in a collaborative environment.  Led by industry expert instructors, students will learn test-taking strategies and what to expect on exam day.

I spoke to Adrienne Knick, Director of Certification at InfoComm, about the CTS program and the perks of taking the exam at the show.

Why is it important for an AV professional to have a CTS certification?

Certification helps everyone. It gives our industry a respected career path for AV professionals and a clear, verified set of industry standards to help clients evaluate their AV providers. A CTS also gives AV pros self-confidence and the ability to sell their services more effectively to clients since it’s evidence they’ve demonstrated their technical proficiency and are dedicated to their professionalism. Plus, think of all the bragging rights among co-workers that earning a CTS gives you!

What are the benefits of taking the exam at the show?

The InfoComm show provides the unique opportunity to take a prep class and sit for your exam the very next day in a focused, professional development atmosphere.  You’re surrounded by people who support you and want you to succeed: your peers and the InfoComm staff. (Come say “hi.” We’ll be on the 200 level near the Westgate skywalk.)

The certification staff does so much clapping and cheering for people who come to tell us they passed and sign the wall that we almost always lose our voices by the end of the week. We wouldn’t have it any other way.  Keep in mind, Tuesday exam appointments always sell out first, so apply and schedule early if you want to avoid being on the waiting list.
